Howdy,
I have realized that I need to start putting the year in the headline title because it has been a year now that I have been posting on this site. I guess this is the first time I have really sat down and thought, wow, time has flown by. To make the realization even worse the new batch of volunteers is on a plan as I am writting this post.
Back here in Benin I am resting up after my procedure on my toes. They ended up removing both the nails on my big toe and adjusted the root to make sure it would not be ingrown again. I was on medication throughout the whole thing and did not feel a thing. The doctor is really great actually. His name is Rufin and he has this uncanny sense of humor. When they were giving me the shots, which did hurt a bit I clapped the table a bit. He said in his Beninois English, "Annie are you happy?" I chuckled no, and then he said, "Then, don't clap you hands." It has been three days now and I want more freedom and mobility, but he is hesitant. He asked me why, I said I was impatient. He was like no, "You are MY PATIENT." I'm not sure you find this funny, but it had myself and the other volunteers rolling on the floor.
The other nice thing is eating amazing food and ice cream every day for the past week. I must say I have been shoving hamburgers, pizza, and french fries down my throat. Yes, I will gain about five pounds, but that will come off on Vacation. Katherine and I are leaving Monday morning and will spend three days in Togo and then eight days in Ghana.
Wish us the best!
Annie
