Guess what?
In two weeks I will be a full fledged volunteer. We swear in the same day as election. By the way, just mailed my absentee ballot. It was really cool, my second election and I am doing it overseas.
Time right now is very hectic. I have class every morning from 8 to 12:30 and then go home only to come back to four hours of French. It is crunch time, our big test is next Thursday and I need to get intermediate high. Wish me luck. I am a bit nervous, but oh well, what can I do.
Teaching is going well. The conditions we teach in are a little bit harder now, because the teachers are on strike. Apparently they are always on strike the first three weeks of school. Well, this means all the other kids are just jumping and laughing around in the other classes, which is very distracting. So, I have developed ways to get the kids jealous that they are not with me in this class. We sing, play games, and then I get their attention only to slip in a verb lesson. For example, yesterday I read the little engine that could. It was to introduce a homework assignment of what they could and could not do. I had the whole class making chugga chugga choo choo and I think I can. It was really cute and I think they got it. I also do a lot of impromptu singing. For example, we were learning the future tense, so I broke out in song "Tomorrow, tomorrow, he will walk tomorrow, it's only a day away." I have basically come to the realization that if I am not having fun in the class the kids are not either, so why not. Ooo, after playing cherades, the verb was to jump. So, we broke out in the Kris Kros Song "Jump Jump"
I just love teaching and they are showing me just as much as I am them. I cannot wait to go to my post and start. But; I am going to have to learn to tone it down a bit when there are actually other classes around me.
Nick is right, it is doucement. Meaning "sorry;" Everyone says it in Benin. By the way family freinds, Nick is the coolest ever. He was a part of our stage in Benin and still is in spirit. Everyone at the internet cafe says hi right now by the way. He decided PC wasn't for him and is now taking care of things state side while we hold down the fort here in Benin. Feel free to pick his brain about Benin as well.
Oh and my sister got sick, so no fantastic voyage mast weekend. But, I did figure out how to post photos on the york photo site. Hopefully, by next week, I will have them all up.
